About

Tiana Graves

Art is naturally an extension of the artist so my childhood, filled with trips to antique stores, thrift stores, and garage sales with my mother, heavily influenced my current work. I have this unyielding urge to document, collect, and salvage the remains of times and places not of my own and somehow give new life and meaning to them.

The process of creation is also incredibly significant to my work and I have always been drawn to analog and primarily hands-on forms of creation. While I received my BFA in photo-image making, I’ve never limited my mode of creation to a singular medium or process. I’ve primarily worked with film processing, chromogenic printing, alternative processes, and various fiber/textile arts. The process should best suit the intention of the work.

I think art all too often fails to personally connect with the viewer, especially within a contemporary context, so a level of interaction is necessary. How this interaction between art and viewer is initiated is what I am currently investigating.
